She Stood There

She stood there at the edge with her hand out. I’m waiting, she said. We have to do this together. He was fiddling through his knapsack. I need something, he said. I’ll just be a minute. It’s now or never, she yelled. He sling the pack over his shoulder and began to walk away, backwards. I swear I’ll be back, he said. Just forgot a few items. He disappeared down the trail and she stood there watching, at the edge with her hand out.
