And Then the World

Whatever you do

whatever else you do

don’t say it

don’t ever let us hear you say it

saying it stirs things up

those cast-off clothes

evil brain chemistry

sex with gargoyles

on ledges twelve stories up

and we can’t have that

Why don’t you think of

nice things like god

and leather upholstery

and that blue blue sky

don’t stay up so late

mornings are more cheery

and that music

will you turn that music down

personally we prefer tunes

to relax take the edge off

As a baby you were so docile

you simply lay there

in your bassinet it was lovely

then the world and you

changed all at once

a filthy mouth and no bra

boyfriends without parents

and that music all the time

unearthly it was not made

by human beings at all

So is it any wonder

that it’s come to this

a bad end some would call it

oh we tried good sense

but you always knew better

had to play with fire

had to test the limits

such a smart girl too

could have been anything
